Student killed in Gingoog road crash

MANILA, Philippines – A 10-wheeler truck collided with a multicab, killing one passenger on Wednesday morning in Gingoog City.

The fatality was identified as 18-year-old Joan Dumapias, a student of the Bukidnon State University.

Eleven other passengers of the multicab were injured from the accident. Four were taken to a hospital in Cagayan de Oro City after sustaining serious injuries while the others were treated in Gingoog City.

The accident occurred at 7:30 a.m. along the National Highway of Barangay Lunao.

Senior Police Officer 2 Felix Espijon said the truck came from Villanueva in Misamis Oriental and was travelling the national highway when it overshot a curved road and crashed into an approaching multicab.

Police took custody of the truck’s driver Elsido Maghanoy Jr., who could face possible charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and multiple physical injuries and damage to property. -- Report from Trini Velasco, ABS-CBN News Caraga
