Sendong survivor allegedly commits suicide
MANILA, Philippines – A survivor of tropical storm “Sendong” in Cagayan de Oro City allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday morning.
Jesus Noel Buenvenida, 43, was found dead inside his tent in a temporary settlement area in Barangay Calaanan at around 7 a.m.
A rope was found coiled in Buenvenida’s neck. It was supposedly used by Buenvenida to strangle himself to death.
Initial investigation from the Scene of the Crime Operatives said there was no foul play involved in Buenvenida’s death.
Relatives suspect Buenvenida was traumatized by the recent tragedy. They said Buenvenida had acted differently in the past days.
They cited an instance where Buenvenida suddenly went out of bed at midnight and asked them to flee from logs that were being swept by raging waters.
Buenvenida’s sister, Edelyn, said his brother was greatly saddened by the destruction of their house.
Buenvenida’s body is set to undergo an autopsy. – report from Primy Cane, ABS-CBN News Northern Mindanao
