Marijuana 'trail' leads cops to cultivator

MANILA -- A man who allegedly cultivates marijuana was arrested inside his house in Kibungan, Benguet on Saturday morning.

The suspect, Daniel Gammat, was arrested after police found marijuana leaves scattered on the road. They followed the trail which led them to Gammat's house.

Authorities found marijuana plants outside the suspect's house. They also found one kilo of marijuana stalks and one kilo of marijuana leaves inside his house. A calibre .38 improvised gun was also found inside a bag.

Gammat denied that he owns the gun and the marijuana plants.

He will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Presidential Decree 8294 or Illegal Possession of Firearms.

Police said they will go back to the area to look for other marijuana cultivators. -- report from Ada Sibayan, ABS-CBN News North Luzon
