MANILA, Philippines – The mayor of Cauayan City, Isabela, Benjamin Dy, died early Saturday due to complications from emphysema, according to a close aide.
Dy, who also served as governor of Isabela, passed away at around 2:30 a.m. at the St. Luke’s Medical Center.
A 3-day wake will be held at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City before the mayor’s remains are brought to his hometown of Cauayan.
Dy was supposed to run as Cauayan mayor in the 2013 midterm elections, but his son Bernard had to replace him in December because of his ailment.
Dy was 60 years old.
