4 soldiers hurt in Isabela landmine blast
MANILA – Four soldiers were wounded in a landmine explosion that occurred in San Mariano, Isabela early Friday.
Authorities said troops from the 86th Infantry Battalion were conducting patrol in the mountainous region of Brgy. Ibujan when the blast occurred.
An encounter with alleged communist rebels immediately followed after the blast.
The exchange of gunfire lasted for nearly 30 minutes.
Authorities have yet to determine if there are casualties from the rebel side.
In a pursuit operation, the military recovered a backpack, documents and an M16 magazine believed to be owned by the rebels.
They have yet to determine the identity of the group behind the attack.
