CEBU -- Three people died and 10 others were wounded after a van collided with a 10-wheeler truck in Argao, Cebu on Thursday morning.
The victims were on their way to the Chong Hua Hospital for a free medical operation sponsored by a non-government organization (NGO) when the accident occurred.
Most of the victims are persons with disabilities (PWD).
Most of the victims sustained wounds and fractures in different parts of their bodies.
Among those wounded is 3-year-old Abegaile Entice, daughter of the van driver Jose Entice.
Other victims were identified as Stepanie Belandres, 17; Ryan Miñao, 12; Dan Luster Cala, 18; Luis Caracol, 6; Arieta Caracol 41; Alison Caracol, 13; Lorna Miñao, 47; and Jessica Selerio, 31.
They were immediately brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for treatment.
Guillerma Belandres, 25 and Rosalinda Laurente, 42, were declared dead at the Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital.
Diether Caracol, 10, was still alive when he was brought to the hospital but died a few minutes later.
Police Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, chief of police of Argao Police Station, said that based on their initial investigation, Entece, the driver of the van, did not follow road regulations.
He overtook a tricycle on a blind curve, which resulted in the van colliding with the dump truck on the other lane. -- report from Aiza Layague and Carine Asutilla, ABS-CBN News Central Visayas
