MANILA – Another suspected member of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was killed in an encounter with the military in Talipao, Sulu Tuesday morning.

The Marine Battalion Landing Team 2 said it encountered several members of the terrorist group in Barangay Mabahay at around 8:30 a.m.

The slain bandit was only identified as Sahadil. His body was recovered by his relatives and immediately buried in Barangay Mahala, also in Talipao, in observance of Islamic tradition.

The gunfight between the Philippine Marines and ASG erupted on Saturday, in an attempt by government forces to neutralize the group believed to be holding eight kidnap victims, including European birdwatchers Elwold Horn from Holland and Lorenzo Vinciguerra from Switzerland.

Six alleged ASG bandits were killed in the raid.

An ambush by the terrorist group on Tuesday also killed a Marine and wounded three others.

Col. Jose Johriel Cenabre, 2nd Marine Brigade commander, said ASG fighters allegedly led by Al Habsi Ansayni attacked elements of the Marine Landing Battalion Team 9 who had just come from a tree planting activity in Barangay Poblacion. – with a report from Leizel Lacastesantos, ABS-CBN News Zamboanga
