MANILA -- A significant amount of debris from an oil spill that occurred three months ago just off Brgy. Botongon in Estancia, Iloilo has yet to be cleared, authorities said Monday.

According to Dr. Rex Sadaba of Task Force Oil Spill, the debris should have been transferred to a treatment facility within 24 hours after it was removed from the sea.

However, but they were surprised that some of the debris remained on the shoreline.

Sadaba said the debris might cause the oil contamination to spread.

Kuan Yu Global Technologies explained that it hasn't found a treatment facility accredited by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and the Philippine Coast Guard.

Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. has ordered Kuan Yu to clear the debris, which contains bunker fuel. - report from Candy Talidano, ABS-CBN News, Iloilo
