MANILA, Philippines – Five people died while 20 others were injured when a passenger jeepney fell into a canal in a mountainous part of Baay Licuan town in Abra Saturday night.
According to initial investigations, the jeepney turned over when it fell into the canal.
Baay Licuan Police Inspector Genaro Rosal also said the jeepney driver may have been intoxicated while driving.
The injured passengers were brought to the Abra Provincial Hospital.
Some of the injured persons were employees and recipients of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. -- Report by Mar Daguio, ABS-CBN News North Luzon
