Guns, drugs seized in Maguindanao

MAGUINDANAO – Several guns, ammunition and sachets of illegal drugs were recovered in a joint operation by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CIDG-ARMM), Maguindanao Police Provincial Office and Armed Forces of the Philippines in the home of Jun Baliwan in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao Friday.

A search warrant on illegal possession of firearms was issued to Baliwan by the Regional Trial Court Branch 13.

Juhari Lakungan, a barangay tanod, was arrested after he was caught inside Baliwan’s home.

Baliwan, who is allegedly known for his involvement in illegal activities, was able to elude arrest after sensing authorities in Barangay Poblacion in the said town at 2 p.m.

"Medyo nahirapan kami, mabilis sila before kami nakapasok nakatakbo na sila,” CIDG-ARMM Senior Inspector Melicio Mina said.

Recovered in the house of Baliwan were one caliber .45 pistol, one 9mm, one shotgun and ammunition, 5 magazines and more or less 20 small sachets of "shabu," and 5 motorcycles allegedly used in illegal activities.

Violation on illegal possession of firearms and possession of illegal drugs under Republic Act 9165 will be filed against Jun Baliwan and Juhari Lakungan while pursuit operation will be conducted by the authorities against Baliwan.
