MANILA - The Commission on Elections canceled the certificate of candidacy of San Pascual, Batangas Mayor Antonio Dimayuga after it was learned he was seeking a 4th term.
In a 6-page decision signed by Commissioners Lucenito Tagle, Elias Yusoph and Grace Padaca, the poll body said Dimayuga can no longer run for re-election since he had already served 3 terms.
Comelec records revealed a certain Mario Magsaysay Jr. was first proclaimed winner of the mayoral elections of San Pascual, Batangas in 2004.
Dimayuga protested Magsaysay's victory and won. He took over the mayoral post on October 4, 2006.
Dimayuga won fresh terms in 2007 and 2010.
Dimayuga was supposed to run for another term this year. His wife, Brenda Dimayuga, is also running for mayor and is facing a separate petition for disqualification filed by a youth group. Report by Noel Alamar, radio DZMM
