MANILA, Philippines – A disqualification case has been filed by the Andayamo (Anti-Dynasty Movement) against Davao City Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who is running for mayor in the May 2013 midterm elections.

Duterte is the father of incumbent Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

But Duterte shrugged off the case, calling it a “non-issue.”

The group also sought the disqualification of Dennis Pineda, the son of Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda; Rexon and Sherwin Gatchalian of Valenzuela; and Miguel Luis Villafuerte and his grandfather Luis Villafuerte of Camarines Sur.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Davao City is still waiting for the resolution from Comelec’s central office to declare the other candidates running for Davao City mayor as “nuisance candidates.”

The new bets were identified as Rodrigo Buezon, Teodoro Mantilla, Magdaleno Marcellones, Rolly Solis and Rodrigo Sulamin.

Under the Omnibus Election Code, a nuisance candidate is an individual who has filed a certificate of candidacy (COC) “in mockery or disrepute or to cause confusion among the voters by the similarity of the names of the registered candidates or who by other acts or circumstances is clearly demonstrated to have no bona fide intention to run for the office.” -- Report from Bonna Pamplona, ABS-CBN News Davao
