Army seizes NPA camp in Bukidnon

MANILA, Philippines -- Government troops seized a camp of the New People's Army (NPA) in Bukidnon before dawn on Tuesday.

Soldiers from the 8th Infantry Battalion and the Artillery Battalion seized the camp of the NPA Guerilla Front Committee 6 located in Sitio Salumayag in Barangay Halapitan, San Fernando.

The camp is believed to be home to at least 150 rebels led by three commanders identified as Jigger, Raya and Alab.

During the encounter, one rebel identified as Sayapo Bonoy Madanio was arrested by the military while three others, identified only as Totot, Mansaluan and Mandala, surrendered.

Recovered from the four rebels were their rifles.

Authorities have yet to confirm the number of casualties in the encounter.

They have also yet to verify if Commander Alab was one of the fatalities. -- Report from Lorenzo Luzon, ABS-CBN News Northern Mindanao
