CEBU CITY -- A public school principal in Carcar City, Cebu is in hot water after outraged parents accused her of physically abusing their child.
The school superintendent of Carcar City, Dr. Gregorio Cyrus Elejorde, called for an investigation on Carcar City Central School principal Mary Jane Puwao, after a student in a Grade 6 class complained that she maltreated him inside the school library.
"We will be conducting a thorough investigation on this incident. We will not tolerate this kind of misbehavior especially on our teachers," Elejorde said.
"We were brought by my classmates inside the library, our principal was waiting with a stick. She immediately hit my back with a stick and she punched me on the face afterwards," the student said.
The school principal admitted that she pushed the child with force out of anger after the student didn't show up for a meeting she set.
However, she denied the allegations that she punched and hit the pupil with the stick.
"I admit I pushed him twice, but punching him? No, I didn't," the school principal said.
Meanwhile, the parents of the student are determined to file cases of child abuse and physical injuries against the school principal.
"We want to put an end to this, this is not the first time it happened. I've heard she was also maltreating other students," said the student's grandmother.
The Department of Education said it will not hesitate in imposing sanctions on Puwao if she is proven guilty of the complaint.
