MANILA, Philippines – The police provincial director of Batangas has been reinstated to his post, the Philippine National Police said on Tuesday.
Batangas Police chief Rosauro Acio was reinstated after the PNP Internal Affairs Service agreed that he had no direct participation in a police operation that killed Fernando "Pandoy" Morales, an alleged aide of suspected jueteng operator Vic Siman.
Acio, along with Supt. Raul Tacaca, head of the Provincial Intelligence Office; Chief Inspector Rodolfo Ama, chief of the Batangas SWAT; Superintendent Elpidio Ramirez, San Juan police chief; and other police officers were relieved from their post after the incident in San Juan town last January 14.
The killing of Morales came in the wake of the Atimonan, Quezon shooting incident where Siman and 12 others were killed at a police checkpoint.
The policemen and soldiers who manned the checkpoint claimed that the incident was a shootout. However, several witnesses said it was a rubout.
The National Bureau of Investigation is expected to submit its report on the incident this week. – report from dzMM
