MANILA, Philippines – A cop died in an encounter with authorities in Barangay 40-D in Davao City on Saturday afternoon.

The victim was identified as SPO4 Allan Balingit, who is suspected of pushing illegal drugs in the area.

Recovered in the crime scene were Balingit’s Colt Mustand .380 pistol, his belt bag containing 11 sachets of suspected shabu, a grenade and several drug paraphernalia.

According to Davao City Police Director Senior Superintendent Ronald dela Rosa, he is saddened that a cop was accidentally killed after he got himself involved in drug pushing.

Dela Rosa said Balingit’s fellow officers have been reminding him to stop pushing illegal drugs but he did not listen.

Even Rodolfo Mendoza, the purok leader in the area, said he was clueless that Balingit was involved in such illegal activity.

Authorities said they also searched Balingit’s house and even probed his live-in partner but they were not able to discover any hidden illegal drugs.

Following this incident, the Davao City Police said they will continue to go after illegal drugs pushers – whether they be civilians or fellow cops. – from a report by Danjo Revilla, ABS-CBN News Davao
