CEBU -- The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) on Friday ordered a preemptive evacuation of residents living in coastal areas due to tropical storm Basyang.

Residents of Talisay City's coastal barangays are the first ones being evacuated Friday night, the PDRRMC said.

The PDRRMC also alerted its teams to monitor possible landslides and overflowing of rivers in the area.

Ambulances, rescue boats, and other disaster equipment have already been prepared.

Meanwhile, around 1,188 passengers were stranded at the Cebu City Port after the Philippine Coast Guard on Friday afternoon cancelled the trips of 33 sea vessels bound for the Visayas and Mindanao.

The Coast Guard advised passengers to get their ticket refunds.

Some who have relatives in Cebu, however, decided to extend their stay.

Others remained at the terminal hoping that the cancellation will be lifted so they can go home.
