Magnitude 5.5 quake strikes off Surigao del Norte

Phivolcs Earthquake Bulletin

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck off Surigao del Norte on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the earthquake occurred at 10:32 a.m. Its epicenter was located 104 kilometers northeast of Burgos town.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of a local fault. It had a depth of 33 kms.

Phivolcs said aftershocks and damages are not expected from the earthquake.
