MANILA, Philippines – Six people died after a van plunged into a ravine in Atok, Benguet before dawn on Sunday.
Authorities said the van plunged into a 300-meter-deep ravine in Barangay Abiang at around 2 a.m.
The fatalities were identified as Laurence Bondad, Melanie Rondares, Jynnah Rie Galino, Racquel Galino, Kyla Rondares and Claring Abalos.
Initial investigation revealed that driver Wilbert Galino, one of the survivors, lost control of the van, causing it to plunge into the ravine.
It was already 5 a.m. when rescuers arrived in the area.
Aside from Wilbert, Panganiban Bauding Galino, Fritzie Bondad, Howard Rondares, Travish Josh Rondares, Fevelyn Garcia and Elmer Galino survived the vehicular accident. They were rushed to Benguet General Hospital for treatment.
The victims visited the wake of a relative in Barangay Banaao in Tadian, Mt. Province before the accident occurred. – report from KZ Zalavaria, ABS-CBN News Northern Luzon
