COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Hundreds of students, out of school youth, and other sectors from different towns in Maguindanao joined the launch of Bayan Mo iPatrol Mo (BMPM) Tayo Na: Halalan 2013 in Cotabato City on Saturday.
BMPM Tayo Na aims to empower citizens to become an instrument and drive for change.
Central Mindanao and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao have always been a center of attention in problems of alleged cheating and electoral fraud, which enabled BMPM to enlighten and empower the citizenry.
A citizens' journalism workshop was conducted by BMPM staff, headed by BMPM head Inday Varona, in which Bayan Patrollers were given inputs on how to be a citizen journalist for change.
Participants were also given a 30-minute time limit to come up with a presentation on reporting a scenario.
Speakers from the Philippine National Police and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting also briefed the participants on security and its role on the election.
As of posting, more than 500 people have already registered as Bayan Patrollers.
