MANILA -- The death toll from the incessant rains brought by a low pressure area (LPA) which later intensified into tropical depression "Agaton" has risen to 56, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Friday.
In its latest update, the NDRRMC said 83 people were injured while 10 others remain missing.
The regions of Davao and Caraga suffered the most with 20 and 24 fatalities, respectively.
Eleven others died in Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental while one person was killed in Zamboanga del Norte.
The NDRRMC said at least 16 landslides and 6 flash flood incidents were reported around Mindanao.
Days of intermittent rains affected at least 240,521 families or 1,136,166 people. At least 9 roads and 2 bridges remain impassable.
Some 927 houses were totally destroyed while 1,501 others sustained damage.
The cost of damage to infrastructure and agriculture is estimated at P382,966,386.72.
