ILOCOS -- Motorists got stranded in Patapat Bridge in Brgy. Pancian, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte after the land surrounding the bridge collapsed Thursday morning.

Officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) immediately performed clearing operations in the area.

The bridge was opened to motorists three hours after the landslide.

The agency added that the area is landslide prone, and continuous rains caused the earth to soften, causing the landslide.

They also found huge cracks in the concrete surrounding the mountain. DPWH said that the structure is more than 30 years old.

Public works officials admitted that they still need more funds before they can repair the cracks.
