ILIGAN CITY -- The police chief of Iligan City was relieved of his post after a bombing incident left a policeman and eight others injured on Monday morning.

Senior Supt. Raul Diones was removed from his office on Tuesday. Senior Supt. Cristito Gonzalodo was designated as officer-in-charge.

SPO2 Diosdado Cabahug, five men and three women were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) went off along Mercado Street.

Investigators said the bomb targeted Cabahug.

The bomb, which was placed in a bicycle parked in front of the policeman's car, went off while Cabahug was about to get in his car.

Cabahug used to work for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and is now with the Philippine National Police (PNP) intelligence group.

Authorities are now looking if closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras were able to capture the incident.
