BATANGAS, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - Four soldiers were hurt when they were ambushed by suspected members of the New People’s Army in a Nasugbu town Sunday afternoon, police said.

Senior Superintendent Rosauro Acio, Batangas police director, identified the wounded soldiers as sergeants Philip Ranola, Joel Salles, Virodec Bobila and a certain Airman Valdez of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

According to the report, around 25 soldiers from the 730th Combat Group of the PAF were onboard a military truck going to Barangay Calayo when they ran over an improvised explosive device along the national road in Sitio Munting Buhangin, Barangay Natipuan around 2:30 p.m.

The soldiers were immediately rushed to Nasugbu Doctors Hospital for slight shrapnel wounds.

"Wala nang inabutang kalaban ang mga sundalo sa lugar, posibleng itinanim lang ng 2 tao ang bomba sa kalye pagkatapos mabilis na tumakas nang masabugan ang military truck," Acio said

Military and police are now conducting follow-up operations to identify and arrest the suspects responsible in the bombing incident.
