BATANGAS (UPDATED) -- A 33-year-old nursing student was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman while she was on board a jeepney in Lipa City Tuesday morning, police said.
Lipa police chief Superintendent Jacinto Malinao identified the victim as Pamela Alcantara Tablizo, a resident of Vista Verde, Cainta, Rizal and nursing student at Lipa City Colleges.
According to the police report, Tablizo was on her way to school on board a passenger jeepney when an unidentified gunman approached the vehicle and shot her at close range around 8:15 a.m.
Tablizo, who was seated at the front seat of the jeepney, sustained two gunshot wounds in her head that caused her instant death.
She was rushed to Mary Mediatrix Hospital but declared dead on arrival at the emergency room.
Tablizo has two children in Cainta, Rizal. Her husband works in New York, USA.
She was renting an apartment at Baseview Homes in Barangay Banay-Banay, Lipa City while studying nursing.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing.
"We already gathered some leads from the text messages extracted from her cellphone, hopefully, it would help in identifying her assailant," Malinao said.
A manhunt operation was launched by the Batangas police to track down the gunman and the mastermind behind the killing.
