MANILA (UPDATED) -- A one-year old child died allegedly after getting a vaccine against measles in Castillejos, Zambales. However, local officials are disputing the claim.
According to the child's mother, she brought her son, who was later identified as John Rogie Cudal, to the health center on January 14 to have him vaccinated, as she was not able to have him vaccinated when he was nine months old.
The baby was still alert and cheerful immediately after the vaccination but experienced difficulties in breathing later that night.
He was immediately brought to the San Marcelino Hospital, where he died. According to his death certificate, the child died of cardiac pulmonary arrest and aspiration.
However, municipal health officials in Castillejos clarified after investigating on the matter that the vaccine did not cause the child's death. He said the child may have choked or suffered from aspiration as he was playing with his mother.
The local government of Castillejos wanted to conduct an autopsy but the child's parents did not give them permission. -- Report from Joanna Tacason, ABS-CBN News North Central Luzon
