DAVAO CITY -- Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Friday admitted that his daughter, former mayor Sara Duterte, wanted to file a protest on her traffic citation for speeding, but thought better of it after realizing she did violate the law.
The younger Duterte was found to have violated the 30, 40 and 60 kilometers per hour speed limits imposed in various parts of Davao City.
Duterte said violation of the law excuses no one, even if it was committed by his daughter or even himself.
"The law is the law," Duterte said.
Earlier, the former mayor was caught speeding at Quimpo Boulevard in downtown area.
Duterte became controversial two years ago after punching a local sheriff during demolition operations in Davao City.
A video of her punching the sheriff became viral on the Web. - Report from Danjo Revilla, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao
