CEBU – Devotees of Santo Niño from all over the country and even from other parts of the world troop to Cebu yearly to celebrate the Sinulog Festival.
Most of the devotees do not have a place to stay because they do not have friends or families in Cebu, while others do not have enough money to book for hotels or pension houses.
This is why Cebu City decided to put up the “devotee city”, an area where 110 20-foot container vans line up for the devotees to sleep in.
Each van can accommodate up to 30 persons.
Portalets, shower rooms, dirty kitchen, and lavatories are provided for the devotees for them to be comfortable during their stay in Cebu.
Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras are mounted to monitor the devotees’ safety.
Barangay tanods are also assigned to guard the area together with police personnel.
Devotees need only to show their tickets whatever mode of transportation they used going to Cebu.
The city will start accepting boarders starting Friday. The visitors can stay until Sunday.
