MANILA -- Alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles celebrated her 50th birthday Wednesday. But unlike previous years, there was no grand party this time.
Napoles is known to have many friends, both from politics and show business.
But now that she's detained in Fort Santo Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, not a single politician or showbiz personality showed up to greet her on her 50th birthday.
Police said only her husband Jaime, two sons and two friends visited her.
The whistleblowers in the pork barrel scam said a grand party was being planned by the Napoles family.
But that was before the P10-billion anomaly got exposed.
Last year, thousands of netizens were outraged by a YouTube video of how Napoles' daughter, Jeane, celebrated her 21st birthday at the posh Beverly Hills hotel.
It was estimated then that around $200,000 were spent for the party with some guests even flying from the Philippines for free.
"Yung daang-libong perang ginastos, wala tayong ibang maisip na pinanggalingan kundi pera din natin. Marami pang dapat managot," said Stephen Cascolan, lawyer of the whistleblowers.
The whistleblowers and their lawyers hope despite several other issues the country faces, government will still prioritize the prosecution of others involved in the pork barrel scandal.
