COTABATO CITY - A joint drug buy-bust operation in North Cotabato resulted in the death of an alleged former member of the Philippine Army.
The alleged ex-soldier, identified as Tuminding Guiapal, was killed in an operation conducted by Midsayap Municipal Police Station and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) inside Ybelles Inn located in Midasayap, North Cotabato.
Guiapal's companion, identified as Teng Kabalu, 46, a farmer and a resident of Dalican, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, was also arrested.
According to Midsayap PNP Chief of Police, Police Superintendent Reinante Delos Santos, Guiapal tried to escape and draw his hand gun, which prompted the operatives to fire against the suspect.
Authorities seized 60 grams of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu.
Kabalu is now under the custody of CIDG-ARMM and will be facing charges on illegal sale and possession of drugs.
The town of Midsayap in North Cotabato is one of the areas in Region 12 that is being closely monitored by authorities because of the rampant use of illegal drugs.
Two days ago, two residents from Midsayap were also arrested by Midsayap PNP for violating Republic Act 9165 also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
