MAGUINDANAO -- Five lowlying barangays in the town of Datu Montawal in Maguindanao were submerged in floods amid heavy rains brought about by a low pressure area (LPA) in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Office of the Civil Defense - Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (OCD-ARMM) regional director Manuel Ochotorena told ABS-CBN News that floodwaters began to rise in areas near the Liguasan Marsh at around 10 p.m. Monday.

Authorities have yet to identify the number of families affected by the floods.

There were no reported casualties so far.

The OCD-ARMM said it is now closely monitoring the 21 towns of Maguindanao which were identified as flood-prone areas.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA, the LPA was last spotted 50 kilometers south of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 80 kilometers northeast of Surigao City.

The regions of Bicol, eastern and central Visayas, Caraga, northern Mindanao and Davao will continue to experience occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
