MANILA -- Two people died while more than 200 houses were swept away by a raging river in Brgy. Marayag in Lupon, Davao Oriental early Sunday morning.
The disaster happened at around 4 a.m. after it rained non-stop since Friday.
A man and a young boy died after they tried to cross the river.
The barangay is currently isolated, as it can't be reached due to the continuous flow of flood water from the mountain.
According to residents, a river in the mountain overflowed, causing the water to flow directly to the barangay.
The flood also brought boulders and logs from the mountain.
Local barangay officials have not identified evacuation centers yet in fear that the schools and the church in the area will be flooded again. -- with a report from Hernel Tocmo, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao
