MANILA, Philippines -- Eight areas have been placed under public storm warning signal number 1 as tropical depression "Bising" maintained its strength, state weather bureau PAGASA said Saturday morning.
In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said signal number 1 has been hoisted in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Western Samar and Eastern Samar.
These areas would expect winds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph), PAGASA said.
Bising was last spotted 170 kilometers northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar.
It was packing maximum winds of 45 kph near the center and was moving northwest at 13 kph.
"Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides," PAGASA said.
Fishing boats and other small seacrafts were advised not to venture out into the seaboards of northern and central Luzon or the seaboards of southern Luzon and Visayas due to Bising and the northeast monsoon (amihan).
Estimated rainfall is 5 to 15 millimeters per hour (moderate - heavy) within the storm's 300-km diameter.
Speaking with radio dzMM, PAGASA forecaster Jori Loiz said a higher storm warning signal might not be raised anymore.
Loiz, meanwhile, said Metro Manila will also experience light rains due to Bising.
-- With dzMM
