Ex-cop arrested for robbery, shooting
MANILA - A former policeman from Lucena City was arrested in Cavinti, Laguna Tuesday afternoon for alleged robbery and frustrated murder.
According to authorities, the suspect, Ruelito Roxas, flagged down a truck in Barangay Banco in Cavinti last January 4.
Roxas allegedly identified himself as an employee of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources then took the victims' cellphones and P12,000 in cash.
The following day, a shooting incident allegedly involving Roxas occurred in Barangay Anglas, also in Cavinti.
Two were hurt in the incident, identified as Jesus Mercado and Samuel Cabugao, both from Macabebe, Pampanga.
The police set off in hot pursuit of the suspect, leading to his arrest. They also found out that Roxas was involved in both incidents, after he was identified by the victims.
The suspect is a former policeman in Quezon who was dismissed from service July last year.
Authorities recovered a 9mm gun, a Calibre. 40, two Calibre .45 guns, eight magazines, bullets and slugs from Roxas. They are still verifying if the guns were licensed.
According to the police, they will look at all possible reasons for the suspect's behavior, who might be suffering from depression after losing his job.
Four counts of robbery, malicious mischief and two counts of frustrated murder have been charged against Roxas. -- with a report from Aldrin Bisco, ABS-CBN News Southern Tagalog
