CIDG nets gunrunner, motorcycle thief in Davao

DAVAO -- A member of a gunrunning syndicate was arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in a buy-bust operation in San Antonio Village, Matina, Davao City.

Regional chief Supt. Joel Pernito identified the suspect as Willie Bustamante alias Tisoy, a resident of Matina.

Seized from the suspect were unlicensed .45 caliber and homemade pistols, two P500 buy-bust money, suspected illegal money, magazine for a .45 caliber pistol, and other firearm parts.

Bustamante, who is currently detained at the CIDG detention cell, is set to face charges of illegal possession of firearms.

Bustamante refused to give a statement regarding the incident.

Pernito said an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the other members of the gunrunning syndicate.

Meanwhile, the 9th most wanted criminal in Davao del Sur was also arrested by the CIDG on Monday.

Raniel Nacario Diamonan, one of the most wanted carjackers in the province, was arrested in Barangay Talus, Malungon, Sarangani province by virtue of an arrest warrant filed last 2012 for illegal possession of firearms and violation of the anti-carnapping law.

CIDG members recovered from the suspect 5 suspected stolen motorcycles, motorcycle spare parts, and a .45 caliber pistol.
