MANILA -- Devotees at the Betis Church in Guagua, Pampanga were shocked when they found out that the church's 300-year-old image of Sto. Niño went missing.

It was nowhere to be found before its scheduled procession last December 30.

According to the church's security guard, many people were inside the church when they noticed that the image was gone.

The image of the Sto. Niño was once part of a larger image of the Virgin Mother and Child.

It was also considered as one of the treasures of Betis Church, which is one of the National Cultural Treasures of the country.

According to Rev. Pablo David, Auxillary Bishop of San Fernando, unlike other images inside the church, the whole image of the Sto. Niño was made of ivory.

He added that there is a possibility that the image was stolen by someone who was pretending to change the image's clothes.

Police are asking those who have any information about the stolen image to coordinate with them. -- report from Trisha Mostoles, ABS-CBN News Pampanga
