Fire razes P5-M worth of properties in North Cotabato

COTABATO CITY - Fire gutted about P5 million worth of properties in Graciano Lopez Jaena Street in Poblacion Matalam, North Cotabato last Wednesday.

According to Matalam Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the blaze started at a building owned by Liza Delgado Saturre and spread to two adjacent residential houses owned by Emily Delgado and Rommel Bueno.

Investigation showed that the fire started at the servants' quarter, which was at the the back portion of the building.

The owner was on vacation while the employees were off duty at the time of the incident.

Fortunately, fire fighters were able to prevent the blaze from further spreading towards several thrift stores nearby.

Stored inside the warehouse were papers, noodles, milk, 400 oil containers and other dry goods which are said to be highly combustible materials.

Fire was put under control 30 minutes after it started with the assistance from fire trucks of Kabacan, Mlang, Antipas and Kidapawan City Fire Offices, and University of Southern Mindanao.

No casualties were reported.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the fire.
