1 dies, Japanese rescued from Negros river resort

MANILA, Philippines – One person died while two others, including a Japanese, were rescued from a river in Negros Occidental.

Rescuers tried but failed to revive John Rey who was swept away by strong current while swimming from a river resort in the town of Murcia.

Rey’s cousin, Kimberly and her husband, Japanese national Ryoji Iwaseki, were rescued.

The Japanese, although shocked by the incident, is still thankful that he and his wife were rescued.

Because of the incident, the local government of Murcia is planning to ban swimming in the river. Report from Yasmin Pascual, ABS-CBN News
