ILIGAN CITY, Philippines - Despite warnings from the local government, some residents have returned to Barangay Hinaplon in Iligan City, which was one of the areas levelled by floods during tropical storm Sendong.
One of them is the Bado family, which is trying again to build a shanty under a destroyed bridge.
Robin Bado said they will go to the roof of the shanty if strong rains come.
Many of the villagers said they can no longer stand the cramped conditions in evacuation centers.
However, they can't help but worry because a new low pressure area is threatening the region.
"We are nervous. We have been traumatized. We become afraid even during light rains," said Nelia Densing.
In Sarangani, Guia Mae Parido did not hesitate to pack up her few clothes after hearing about the coming weather disturbance.
Although the rains haven't arrived, Guia can't help but think about what happened in Iligan and Cagayan de Oro.
Leticia Orquola, who lives along a river, is also prepared to evacuate.
State weather bureau PAGASA said that although the low pressure area has weakened, it doesn't mean residents should put their guard down.
PAGASA senior weatherman Dante Ariola said rains can still trigger floods and landslides.
The local government is calling on families and barangay leaders to discuss their plans, if and when disaster strikes. - report from Roxanne Arevalo ABS-CBN News Northern Mindanao
