MANILA (2ND UPDATE) -- Eight fishermen who went missing after being attacked by armed men last week were found dead off the coast of Zamboanga City, police said.
Six of them were discovered dumped inside a pumpboat that drifted towards Barangay Manicahan at around 4 p.m. on Friday.
On Saturday morning, the remains of two more people were found floating on the sea waters off Sacol Island by police from the Zamboanga City mobile group.
According to Inspector Federico Lindo, the two victims were companions of the six others discovered dumped inside a motorized pumpboat last night.
The bodies were already in an advanced state of decomposition.
None of them was decapitated, police said.
The relatives of the victims positively identified the bodies as Jimmy Sanayani, Palari Sanayani, Benjie Sanayani, Piya Sanayani, Laji Sanayani, Jeffrey Sanayani, Mulsid Ambasali and Mastal Jaolani.
They then immediately buried the victims near the shore, following the tradition of Islam.
The fishermen went missing after being attacked by gunmen in Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay last week.
Police are investigating the case. -- Report from Leizel Lacastesantos, ABS-CBN News Zamboanga
