MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Monday it will field fire trucks on New Year’s Eve to assist the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
"We know BFP will have its hands full in monitoring Metro Manila during the New Year's Eve revelries. Our fire trucks and trained personnel will be on 24-hour alert," MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said in a statement.
MMDA’s Rescue Unit and Road Emergency Group will also be on alert to respond to emergencies during the New Year's Eve celebrations.
"In case of fire incidents such as what happened in San Juan and Quezon City on Christmas Day, our fire trucks will be in hand to assist BFP," said Tolentino.
Tolentino also advised the public against burning tires on the street, a common practice to welcome the New Year.
He said the practice not only harms the environment but also people’s health. He added that burning tires also damage road surfaces.
