MANILA, Philippines -- Fire gutted at least 50 houses in Barangay Tugatog, Malabon before dawn on Saturday.
Fire Investigator Veronica Magada said the blaze started at around 1:15 a.m. It reached the fourth alarm and was declared under control at 3:42 a.m.
One resident identified as Jose Reyes sustained a third degree burn due to the fire. He was rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital.
The blaze left nearly 100 families homeless, two days before the New Year's Eve.
Barangay Chairman Sheridan Abad said the displaced families will temporarily seek shelter in Tugatog's multi-purpose center.
