MANILA, Philippines - The National Capital Region Police Office has been increasing police visibility in populous areas, including shopping areas, especially this Christmas season, Malacañang said Monday.

"May mga reporma na ginawa na po si (NCRPO chief) General (Leonardo) Espina tulad ng mga mobile patrol. Ngayon naka-blinker po siya to let the people know that we are patrolling the area and our response time should be fast and swift," Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said.

"Didisiplinahin po natin ang mga (pulis) na hindi tumutupad sa kanilang trabaho," he added.

The NCRPO chief earlier said the number of recorded crimes in the months of September and October this year partially decreased compared to the crime incidents recorded in the same months last year.

"Yung -ber months, compared noong September last year, doon bumaba ho siguro ng 20% something in terms of crimes vs. persons and properties. Ito hong October about 5%," Espina told radio dzMM.

The police chief said closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in various establishments helped the authorities in deterring and solving crimes.

Meanwhile, Espina appealed to the public to help the Philippine police in responding to various crimes.

He said the public could utilize the emergency hotline number 117 to report any incident of harassment or crimes in their places. With a report from radio dzMM
