MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – The vice-mayor of Talisay in Batangas was shot by an unidentified gunman at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City Thursday.
Talisay Vice Mayor Florencio Manimtim Jr. was shot at the corner of Harbor Drive and Sunset Avenue before noon, according to Pasay City police chief Superintendent Melchor Reyes.
Manimtim sustained 3 gun shots in the back.
Police said Manimtim had just disembarked from his black Toyota Grandia and was about to enter the mall when the shooting occurred.
According to mall traffic enforcer Allan Catajay, the gunman immediately rode a motorcycle where two other companions were waiting for him.
Catajay said he and other traffic enforcers tried to catch the suspects but did not succeed. He added one of the suspects shouted “huwag na kayong humabol!” to them.
Manimtim was rushed to nearby San Juan de Dios hospital where he is now undergoing operation, dzMM’s Dexter Ganibe reported.
Today’s shooting was the second attempt to kill Manimtim. The first attempt happened last August 2010.
