MANILA, Philippines – Another suspect in the killing of car dealer Venson Evangelista in 2011 has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation-Reaction Arrest and Interdiction Division (NBI-RAID).
The suspect, Joel Jacinto, was arrested in his home in Las Piñas City Thursday morning by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Luisa Quijano-Padilla of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 215.
Jacinto, who is allegedly a member of the Dominguez carnap group, admitted his involvement in Evangelista’s killing.
“Kasama nila ako nu’ng patayin nila. Ano ba naman ang magagawa ko?” he said.
He said he was employed by the Domiguez brothers as their driver when they met with Evangelista.
“Mayroong ni-road test, nakahanap ng tiyempo, doon ko siya tinutukan. Tapos kinuha nila si Venson, tinalian, at dinala sa Pampanga,” he said.
Jacinto said he had considered surrendering to authorities but did not want to leave his family.
Evangelista’s burned corpse was found in Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija in January 2011. He had a gunshot wound in the head.
Several suspects have been arrested with the help of a witness, Alfred Mendiola, who was also killed in May.
Jacinto has requested that he be placed in the witness protection program of the Department of Justice. -- Report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
