MANILA, Philippines – Two prison guards were sacked after the leader of the "Ozamis Gang" criminal group escaped last Saturday.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima ordered the relief of Prison Guards 1 Ernesto Aquino and Niño Aquino,  two New Bilibid Prison guards tasked to man the West Gate of the Reception and Diagnostic Center at the time of the escape of Ricky Cadavero alias "Kambal."

Muntinlupa City police earlier said Cadavero was able to escape from the NBP after three men posing as visitors pointed guns at the jail guards.

The NBP report said the three men, along with Cadavero, escaped on board two motorcycles.

De Lima said she will look into the possible filing of criminal and administrative charges against the two prison guards.

The Ozamis group is said to be behind numerous robberies in malls in Metro Manila, including those in Alabang Town Center, Robinsons Metro East, Robinsons Galleria, Robinsons Novaliches and Robinsons Dasmariñas, and a Landbank branch in Quezon City.

Philippine National Police (PNP) director general Nicanor Bartolome has already ordered special PNP forces to track down Cadavero. – with dzMM
