MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – The alleged leader of the notorious Ozamis robbery group escaped from the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) Saturday morning, authorities said.

Muntinlupa City police chief Senior Supt. Conrad Capa said he received a report from NBP at around 9 a.m. that Ricky Cadavero alias "Kambal" was able to escape from the NBP after three men posing as visitors pointed guns at the jail guards.

The NBP report said the three men, along with Cadavero, escaped on board two motorcycles.

Southern Police District Chief Supt. Benito Estipona said all police stations in the area have already been alerted to keep an eye on the robbery group leader.

Estipona has also ordered banks and financial institutions to tighten their security measures.

Now that its leader has escaped, the Ozamis gang is likely to attack again, Estipona said.

Authorities are investigating the incident.

The Ozamis robbery group is said to be behind numerous robberies in malls in Metro Manila, including those in Alabang Town Center, Robinsons Metro East, Robinsons Galleria and Robinsons Novaliches and Robinsons Dasmariñas, and a Landbank branch in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) director general Nicanor Bartolome has ordered special PNP forces to track down Cadavero. -- Report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
