17 Taiwanese nabbed for phone fraud

MANILA, Philippines – Seventeen Taiwanese have been arrested in Caloocan City over alleged telephone fraud, authorities said on Saturday.

The foreigners were arrested in a raid conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation in West Mangahan Street, West Meromonte Park following a complaint from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office.

The foreigners allegedly pretend to be police officers and swindle people in Taiwan by contacting them via telephone.

They are facing charges for violating Republic Act No. 8484 or Access Devices Regulation Act. -- Report from Ricky Velasco, dzMM
