EDSA bus collision leaves 8 hurt, snarls traffic
MANILA, Philippines – At least 8 people were injured after two buses and a sedan collided inside a tunnel in EDSA on Monday morning.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority traffic enforcers said a Santrans bus (PVB 263), traveling along the southbound lane of EDSA-Tuazon underpass, avoided a vehicle but rammed the center island and entered the southbound lane.
The bus then hit the approaching BLTB Bus (TXY 997) and a black Toyota Corolla Altis (PLI 796) driven by Geranio Cuevas, who sustained minor injuries.
The injured passengers were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center.
The Santrans bus driver, on the other, was among those injured.
The three-vehicle collision caused heavy morning traffic on EDSA's northbound lane, with the vehicles still blocking the lane as of 7 a.m.
MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino, meanwhile, said he will call the attention of the operators of Santrans and BLTB since buses are not allowed to pass through EDSA's tunnels. – report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
