MANILA, Philippines – A police officer was assaulted by a French national who has gone amok in front of the Argos Bar along P. Burgos Street, Barangay Poblacion in Makati City.

According to Makati Police Chief Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban Jr., someone asked help from the police when the French national started going unruly.

The police officer, who asked not to be named, tried to calm down the foreigner. Instead, the French national beat and kicked him while saying nasty words against him.

The French national, who is currently at the Makati Medical Center due to high blood sugar level, will be facing charges of alarm and scandal and assault against a person in authority.

Meanwhile, the Makati Police chief ordered his men to accompany intoxicated foreigners to their hotels or residences to also ensure their safety.

This comes after a US marine, who was also allegedly drunk, was stabbed in Barangay Poblacion last week.

Lukban said the Makati Police is willing to look after the tourists in the city but they will not tolerate any unruly behavior from them. – from a report by Zandro Ochona, dzMM
